Cristina Bizzi

Head of Schools Commercial,
Department for Education (DfE)

Cristina joined the DfE in August 2018, as Head of Schools Commercial. Cristina spent 3 years at the Ministry of Justice leading the commercial team for Youth Justice and Shared Services, building and running the commercial support for the Departmental ALBs, and heading the Commercial Operating Centre. Cristina began her career in the Civil Service in 2014, working as Supplier Innovation Director for the Crown Commercial Service. Cristina joined the Civil Service after 15 years in the private sector. In Citibank, she was the Sourcing Vice President heading Banking and Financial Services across 53 countries. For Barclays, she led the strategy development and negotiation of complex global outsourcing deals. Cristina holds a First-Class Master’s degree in Management Engineering.

  • Outlining the latest guidance from DfE’s School’s Buying Strategy with the aim of supporting schools and academies to save £1 billion by 2019 – 2020 on non-staff expenditure
  • Assessing findings from the development of the Regional Schools Buying Hubs pilots and how they are facilitating local collaboration on the purchasing of supplies
  • Evaluating how Regional Schools Buying Hubs can offer guidance and support on contract development and management
  • Analysing how academies can effectively use the DfE’s benchmarking tool to compare spending and costs on supplies and services to inform budgeting and procurement
  • Understanding the work of the Crown Commercial Service in harnessing national buying power to deliver value for money for academies in the purchasing of products and services
