Gillian Allcroft

Deputy Chief Executive,
National Governance Association (NGA)

Gillian Allcroft is NGA’s Deputy Chief Executive. Gillian’s role includes developing policy, representing NGA at external meetings and oversight of NGA’s Policy and Information team. Gillian worked for the National Governors’ Council prior to its merger with the National Association of School Governors to form the NGA. Before that she worked at the Department for Education. She is the author of Welcome to a Multi Academy trust: a guide for newly appointed trustees.  

  • Understanding the financial skills and oversight expected of an academy’s board in ensuring value for money and financial oversight
  • Delivering effective financial scrutiny and assessing how boards can monitor and verify financial performance
  • Assessing key questions governors should be asking and core indicators of resource management including staff pay, teacher to student ratios and class sizes
  • Ensuring successful accountability of 3 to 5 year budget projections and assessing how a trust should project pupil numbers, income and staffing
  • Analysing how a governing body can effectively engage with staff and senior leadership across an academy to understand the impact of financial decision making
